Higher was released on November 10, 2023 through Mercury Nashville. Chris Stapleton’s official announcement names Dave Cobb, Morgane Stapleton, and Chris Stapleton as its producers. The album was recorded at RCA Studio A in Nashville.

The standard track list contains fourteen songs. “White Horse,” its first single, had arrived in July. That gives a listener two ways in: begin with the single that introduced the record or use the album sequence, starting with “What Am I Gonna Do.” Neither choice requires a score or somebody else’s verdict.
