The site collects an email address when you create a free account or ask to join The Weekly Twang. These are separate choices; creating an account does not subscribe you to marketing emails. Newsletter confirmation is required before subscription. We record your consent, signup source, and subscription state so we can honor unsubscribe requests.
Research tools and artist report downloads require a free account verified through your email. Reports download directly to your device; no extra name, company or role is required. Using a tool or downloading a report does not subscribe you to a newsletter.
Any aggregate tool-use measurement respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control.
Without an account, saved artists stay in this browser on this device, including the record name, link and save date. When signed in, your artist selections and save dates are stored with your account so you can access them on other devices. Importing a browser list is your choice; signing in does not automatically import it. You can remove saved items from Saved research. Browser lists remain on the device until you remove them or clear this site’s browser storage.
We store your email address, verification date and saved artists. Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes and are usable once, in the browser that requested them. Necessary secure cookies protect sign-in and keep you signed in for up to 30 days. We store hashed sign-in and session tokens rather than reusable plaintext tokens. Signing out ends the current session. You can delete your account and its saved artists from your account; newsletter preferences remain separate.
When enabled, first-party analytics records page views, page paths, content interactions, reading depth, and allowlisted campaign labels. It does not store raw IP addresses, fingerprint devices, or send email addresses to analytics. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control are honored.
Abuse prevention uses short-lived hashed network identifiers in rate-limit counters. Editorial sign-in uses a necessary secure session cookie, separate from a reader account session. Public reading does not require an account. When analytics is enabled, a local timestamp approximates return visits and session storage retains allowlisted campaign labels; neither contains a visitor identifier.
When available, Google Analytics loads only after you choose “Allow analytics.” It uses first-party cookies to measure visits, article reading depth, and use of our artist, company and research pages. Google receives public page paths, interaction categories and standard device and network information. We exclude private pages, URL query strings, search text, email addresses and form contents from the events we send. Advertising personalization and Google signals are disabled.
You can refuse without affecting the site, or change your choice below. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control override permission. Withdrawing permission stops our Google measurement and clears its cookies on this site; it does not erase data already received by Google. Analytics cookies expire after 180 days. Your preference is saved in this browser until you change it or clear site storage. See how Google uses information from partner sites.
Resend delivers account sign-in links and, when newsletter signup is available, subscription confirmation emails. Your email address and the message content are shared with Resend for delivery. When weekly delivery is enabled, confirmed subscribers receive The Weekly Twang: our Top 25 Signals briefing, scheduled for Fridays at 9 a.m. Central. Creating an account alone does not subscribe you. Delivery, bounce and complaint reports help us stop sending to addresses that cannot or do not want to receive email. We do not add open-tracking pixels or rewrite links for click tracking.
When you use our contact or corrections form, your name, reply email, message and any page link are sent through Resend to the team’s private inbox so we can handle your request. We do not store form messages in the application database. The message is handled as email by our delivery and inbox providers. Sending a message does not create an account or subscribe you to a newsletter.
Unsubscribe using the link in your confirmation or newsletter email. We keep subscription status and consent history to record your choice and honor unsubscribe requests.
